Consumer Unit Installations
Your Local Consumer Unit Installers
Your consumer unit (often called a fuse box) is the heart of your home’s electrical system. A modern consumer unit keeps you and your family safe by controlling and protecting all the circuits in your property.
We supply and fit high-quality consumer units for homes across Cornwall and Devon. Whether you’re upgrading from an outdated fuse box, replacing a damaged unit, or installing one in a new property, we’ll ensure your system meets current wiring regulations.
Our installations include RCD and MCB protection, giving you peace of mind that your home is safe from electrical faults. We also offer consumer unit health checks and can advise if an upgrade is recommended for safety and compliance.

Protect Your Home with a Modern Consumer Unit
A modern consumer unit is more than a legal requirement – it’s your home’s first line of defence against electrical faults. It distributes power safely, protects against electric shock, and helps prevent potentially devastating electrical fires.
Upgrading an outdated unit ensures your home meets the latest UK wiring regulations and provides complete peace of mind that your family and property are protected by advanced, reliable safety technology.
- Reduced Fire and Safety Risk – Old fuse boxes are a common cause of electrical fires. Modern units deliver far greater protection.
- Clear, Compliant Documentation – Every installation includes test results, certification, and clear labelling for ongoing safety and future servicing.
We're Here To Help
We can assess your existing fuse box, and recommend the right consumer unit for your needs – so you can upgrade with confidence.
Consumer Unit Installation Services
We offer professional installation, replacement, and upgrading of consumer units, ensuring your home meets the latest UK wiring regulations. Every unit is fitted with modern safety features, tested to the highest standards, and fully certified for your peace of mind.
Replacement or Upgrades
Swap out ageing fuse boxes for modern panels featuring RCDs (Residual Current Devices), MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers), and labelling for safe, clear operation.
Best-Practice Placement
Installed in accessible, non-combustible locations such as utility rooms, under-stairs cupboards or garages - never in overly cramped or unsuitable areas.
Safety Enhancements
Optionally, we can include Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs) on select circuits, as recommended by current guidance for reducing fire risks in high-risk areas.
18th-Edition Compliance
Since BS 7671:2018 + A3:2024 mandates RCD protection on most socket circuits, we ensure all new units meet these and other critical safety standards to reduce fire and shock risk.
Signs Your Consumer Unit Needs Upgrading
An outdated or faulty consumer unit can put your home and family at risk. Recognising the warning signs early means you can take action before a fault develops into something more serious.
You should consider replacing or upgrading your consumer unit if you notice:
- An old fuse box: If your home still has rewireable fuses or a unit with a wooden or metal-clad backboard, it’s likely to be well past its safe service life.
- No RCD protection: Modern consumer units are fitted with Residual Current Devices that quickly cut power to prevent electric shock. If your unit doesn’t have these, it’s not meeting current safety standards.
- Signs of overheating or burning: Scorch marks, a burning smell, or melted components indicate serious safety issues.
